— SUNBURY — On Dec. 1, more than two dozen members of the Shikellamy Forensics team traveled to Elk Lake High School to compete in a tournament sponsored by the Scranton Diocese of the National Catholic Forensic League. The tournament hosted over 100 students from schools throughout central and eastern Pennsylvania.

Shikellamy’s novice squad posted numerous awards throughout the day. Leading his team and capturing top honors in Declamation was freshman, Noah Fenstermacher. Fenstermacher received first place in the event which features students in grades 7-10. Saturday’s event was only Fenstermacher’s second outing for the young Shikellamy team. Sophomore Larry Herrold claimed the second place trophy in Novice Extemporaneous speaking matching his finish a few weeks earlier at the tournament hosted by Lake Lehman High School. One of the newest members of the Braves team was seventh grader, Isabelle Best, who placed third in the Novice Congress event. This was Isabelle’s debut performance with the team. The Novice Duo team of freshmen Morgan Klinger and Emily Specht also captured third place honors. Three eighth graders earned awards as fledgling Braves speakers. Natalie Shoch advanced to the finals in Novice Oral Interpretation and claimed sixth place, while Sarah Fedder and Calista Collins, finished fifth and sixth, respectively in Declamation.

Ten team members will now travel to Philadelphia to compete in the LaSalle College High School Invitational Tournament, while the competition play, “The Laramie Project”, another division of the award-winning Shikellamy forensics program, travels to Susquehanna University to compete in the State Drama Championships. Shikellamy is currently the defending State Champion in Drama, and the cast and crew is hoping to defend their title and capture another State Championship at the Degenstein Theatre. The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania High School Speech League.
