— DANVILLE — A Milton woman who was shot early Saturday morning while inside a vehicle in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County, was in critical condition Sunday.

Meanwhile, the continuing investigation led to the arrests of two Mount Carmel men, on charges of gun and drug possession, although state police said they have not been immediately tied to the shooting.

A nursing supervisor at Geisinger Medical Center reported the condition of Salicia Yost, 20, of Milton, who was taken to the Danville medical center following a one-car crash at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Yost’s vehicle crashed on Irish Valley Road near Route 61, about four miles north of Shamokin.

Police said Yost was traveling east toward Route 61 when she apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a snow mound.

State police at Stonington had closed off a mile-long section of Irish Valley Road sometime after noon Saturday as they continued their investigation. The road was reopened about 3 p.m.

State police are still piecing together information, trooper Matthew Burrows, state police spokesman, said Sunday.

“I can tell you the investigation is ongoing,” Burrows said.

Through the investigation and interviews with others, two men were arrested in Mount Carmel on gun possession and drug possession charges, Burrows said, but not in conjunction with this investigation.

“They are not suspects at this point in time in the investigation,” Burrows said.

Yost’s accident was reported by a passerby who came around corner and saw the car, Burrows said.
