— MILTON — A James F. Baugher Elementary School teacher is using technology to get technology for her students.

Kristin Barr already received one iPad through, a fundraising effort for teachers, and is about a third of the way toward another for her kindergarten class.

Barr turned to the website after hearing about other teachers using it.

“Teachers can get on this website and choose things they might need for their classrooms,” she said. “It’s for anything a school is really lacking.”

Barr’s first request at was completed in two days, with donations coming from friends, family and ConAgra Foods. Barr now is working to raise money for a second iPad for her 17 students to use.

So far, the project has raised $205 and needs $392 to go, Barr said.

Students have begun using the first iPad and are thrilled with it, she said.

“When we got it out of the box the first time, they could not wait to use it,” she said. “We worked in groups of four and did some word-building. ... It was like moving scrabble tiles around the screen.”

Barr said technology has proven to be an effective tool in the classroom and is one that helps students have fun while they are learning important skills.

“Technology is really here to stay,” she said. “The kids are using it at home and really it’s engaging for them. ... They are not even aware that they’re learning at that moment.”

People can go to to give to Barr’s classroom iPad fund and click on “James F. Baugher Elementary School,” at the top of the screen to see other projects raising funds at the school. Barr said donors who use the keyword “INSPIRE” today will have donations up to $100 matched.
