— POINT TWP – Two women were sent to Geisinger Medical Center following a two car crash at approximately 4:25 p.m. on Point Township Drive, just past the Northumberland county line.
Chief Josh Vankirk, of the Point Township Police Department, said both vehicles were traveling at normal speeds but declined to release the names of the two women involved. He said the women were the only occupants of their respective vehicles, a red sedan and a silver SUV. Both women also had seat belts on, which helped protect them from worse injuries, he said.
The driver of the red sedan, who was traveling southbound, became distracted while driving, Vankirk said. She struck a guard rail along her side of the road and veered into the oncoming northbound lane of traffic, at which point her car collided with the silver SUV. The red sedan came to a rest at a graveled area along Route 11. The silver SUV came to a rest along the northbound guardrail. The SUV’s front passenger wheel had been knocked off in the accident.
The two women were taken to Geisinger Medical Center by Danville Ambulance and TransMed Ambulance service.
Traffic was reduced around the scene of the accident.
Also responding were Mahoning Township’s East End Fire Company, Mahoning Township Police Department, Point Township Fire Department and Tuckahoe Fire Department.
