SUNBURY — May 11 may be the day that an unknown Valley youth band becomes known.
That’s because Sunbury Elks Lodge 267, on South Second Street, will hold a “battle of the bands” to sponsor the Shikellamy High School wrestling team.
The first nine bands to register will be accepted, and each band will perform two songs, organizer and Elks Trustee Justin Michaels said.
The names of songs must be provided with the bands’ registration to avoid repeats, and the first band to register a song will receive first rights to it, Michaels said.
“The top three bands will perform a third and final song in the finals,” he said. “The winning band receives the opportunity to open up for one of Fisher Promotions’ future events.”
Fisher Promotions, of Northumberland, promotes various concerts, including the rock band KIX.
“It’s an awesome event,” Elks Exalted Ruler Slade Shreck said. “Anytime you can do anything for kids, it’s a great thing.”
The event will be alcohol free, he added.
“We are trying to give options and different avenues for kids to have something to do,” Shreck said. “I am glad Justin Michaels has organized this, and I believe we will have a packed house.”
Shikellamy junior high wrestling coach Justin Dunkelberger agreed.
“We hope this raises some money for the wrestling program,” he said. “We also love the fact we get to recognize some Valley talent and give back to our community. Anything the Elks can do to help out the kids of this Valley, we will do.”
The battle will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until there is a winner.
Cost of admission is $2, and the bands will pay a $40 registration fee.
Anyone interested in performing can send registration information to: Fisher Promotions, 140 John’s Way, Northumberland, PA 17857.
