— SUNBURY — After a 14-year hiatus, the Sunbury-Northumberland summer competitive swim team is making a return to the city.

The Sunbury Community Pool will once again be the home for more than 50 Shikellamy and Line Mountain students to practice competitive swimming.

“I am really excited,” head coach Kristy Truitt-Reichner said. “The staff and the community and everyone involved has been great to us, and we are glad to come back to the city.”

The team is open to students ages 5 to 18, and this year, registration is being opened to all area school districts. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards comfortably.

The swim season will begin June 6 and run until the last weekend in July, she said.

“They have been so accommodating to us,” Truitt-Reichner said of the city and its residents. “We are looking forward to getting started.”

She will be joined by coaches Shannon Walter and Michelle Giordani.

Youths can sign up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 9 to 11 a.m. May 11 at the Sunbury Community Pool. The cost is $65 per child with a $25 fee for a second sibling. Additional siblings are free.

Swimmers will receive a free T-shirt with registrations paid in full by May 11.

There will be eight dual meets during the season. “We do understand that vacations and other sports may be occurring during these few summer months, but we don’t want that to discourage swimmers from joining.” Truitt-Reichner said. “A two-meet minimum is all that is required to qualify to enter championships in July.”
