Regional Civil War exhibit opens April 20

SUNBURY — In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the Susquehanna River Valley Heritage Alliance invites the public to visit a new regional civil war exhibit that will be on display at the Hunter House Museum at the site of Fort Augusta, Sunbury, from April 20 through the end of July.

The Susquehanna River Valley Heritage Alliance is made up of the Snyder, Union, Northumberland, Montour, and Milton historical societies, Packwood House Museum, Slifer House Museum, Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, and the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau.

The exhibit includes original Abraham Lincoln autographs, an original program from Ford’s Theater from the night of his assassination and dried flowers from his funeral. There will also be many early photos and statues of Lincoln and his family, commemorative coins and keepsakes, Civil War discharges and appointment documents, and various additional items from Lincoln’s life as president and the time surrounding his death. In addition, the exhibit will display other Civil War items on display including the Zouave uniform and drum of John Boulton (Boltie) Young.
