City man gets 5-10 years in state prison for rape

— SUNBURY — A Sunbury man is headed to state prison after being sentenced Monday in Northumberland County Court for the 2012 rape of a 17-year-old girl he met on Facebook.

“I regret doing what I did,” Erik Harrington, 25, of 440 Catawissa Ave., said after receiving a 5- to 10-year state prison sentence from President Judge William Wiest. “I am very sorry for my actions.”

Sunbury police officers Travis Bremigen and Brad Slack worked more than 24 hours while investigating the case after the girl reported the attack. The teen told police she met Harrington on Facebook and began messaging and text messaging back and forth with him, court documents said.

After arranging a meeting in Sunbury, the girl drove to Harrington’s home and entered the dwelling, where they walked upstairs, police said. The teen told officers she saw a knife in a bedroom and became afraid, court documents said.

The pair went downstairs, and the girl said Harrington began to kiss her, and she told him she had a boyfriend and that she did not go to his house for sex, police said.

Harrington told the girl he was in a gang and continued to kiss her while the girl kept repeating she wanted him to stop, police said. At that point, officers said, Harrington punched her in the face, causing redness and swelling, and told her to take off her clothes.

Harrington had sex with the girl, although she told him to stop a dozen times, according to court documents.

After the assault took place, police said Harrington told the girl to clean herself with a towel. She got dressed and left the home, officers said.

The girl drove to her aunt’s home in Sunbury and called police.
