Train rides return during the Sunbury River Festival

SUNBURY — With the Sunbury River Festival right around the corner, committee members are proud to announce the return of the train rides.

And yes, that includes themes.

Thanks to the efforts of Tammy Dauberman, of Swineford National Bank, Gary Grossman, publisher of The Daily Item, and his wife, Marie, and Jeff Pontius, of SEDA-Council of Governments, the event is shaping up to please everyone.

Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Spiderman, Superman, the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam all will be making their way to Sunbury on Aug. 17, when three train rides will be held.

Cost of tickets will be $10 per person, and children younger than 2 and uniformed members will ride for free and can pick up their tickets the day of the event.

Beginning at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., the Children’s Magical Express will be boarding, and children will be able to ride with the characters.

At 1 p.m., the Community Pride Ride will board, and the new twist this year, thanks to committee, is that instead of veterans only riding for free, all uniformed members are invited to ride free of charge.

All rides begin at The Daily Item press building, Raspberry Avenue, and plenty of parking is available.

Tickets will be sold along with conductor hats and whistles, and children can get their pictures taken with one of the characters.

Advance tickets are available at the following locations: Swineford National Bank, Northumberland National Bank and M&T Bank, all on Fourth Street, and Susquehanna Bank, Fourth and Market streets.
