Avoid becoming the victim of fraud, scams


— Join AARP for a half-day of free consumer education and lunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 at the Sunbury Social Club, 352 East Drive, Sunbury.

Learn how to stretch your shopping dollar by making wise choices in the marketplace, whether it is at the grocery store or in choosing a provider of electric utility service. Also learn how to avoid frauds and scams that can rob you of your money.  

Featured speakers include former PA Consumer Advocate Sonny Popowsky and popular consumer issues speaker Mary Bach in addition to experts from Banking & Securities and the U.S. Postal Service. A local chief of police will also present on consumer protection at the community level.

A mobile shredder will be on hand from 2-3 p.m. to destroy confidential documents securely.
