— While visiting Parris Island, “we had the opportunity to stop for a minute and watch the band practice. They were absolutely perfect. It’s the U.S. Marines. They played for several hours and had everything in rhythm. It was a sight to see and when it came time to perform in front of the thousands of family and friends of graduates, there wasn’t a dry eye on the island.”
At the invitation of the U.S. Marine Corps, reporter Francis Scarcella and photographer Rob Inglis recently spent four days on Parris Island, N.C. Their stories and photos appeared in The Daily Item. There were some memorable moments Scarcella jotted down that did not appear in the newspaper, which will appear here.
