— RIVERSIDE – After nearly switching to Blue Cross and Blue Shield to cover borough employee healthcare, Riverside has received another proposal from their original provider, Geisinger Health Plan.
The current estimate given to the borough would cost them about $6,700 a month and be parallel to their current Geisinger Health Plan coverage, said borough secretary Deb Bausch. The borough currently pays $9,200 a month.
The new proposal came as a result of changes being made to healthcare plans ahead of federal changes to healthcare programs at the start of 2014, Bausch said. The changes opened up 35 new plans to the borough, of which Geisinger narrowed down six that would be most appropriate for coverage of Riverside’s seven employees.
The quote from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, which would have offered similar coverage to the borough’s current plan, costs about $8,100 a month, Bausch said.
