WATSONTOWN — The Borough of Watsontown has scheduled a public meeting to discuss ideas relating to enhancement of its riverfront gateway. The “Susquehanna Greenway Gateway Park and Streetscape” project will develop design concepts for the beautification of W. Brimmer Avenue and Canal Street, including new ideas for greener streets and parking areas and stormwater management in the project area.
The project is funded by the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, based in Lewisburg. The Partnership is leading efforts to enhance river towns and build the greenway in 22 Pennsylvania counties. Also contributing support to the project are the Borough of Watsontown, the Warrior Run Womens Club, Warrior Run Community Corporation and The Watsontown Guild.
Dave Hontz, mayor of Watsontown, is encouraging residents, and business and property owners within the project area to attend a kick-off meeting scheduled 7 p.m. April 30 at the Borough Building to learn more about the project objectives, site conditions and opportunities, and to help formulate a general concept for further pursuit.
The aim of the current project is to produce a concept site development plan which could be used to pursue future public-private funding needed to implement a range of enhancements along the riverfront. This is the first in a series of several meetings to be conducted between now and later this summer.
