TURBOTVILLE — The Warrior Run school board unanimously adopted a 2013-14 budget Monday that includes a property tax increase of .33 mills in Montour County, 2.97 mills in Northumberland County and .51 mills in Union County.
That equals an average of about an extra $42 a year in Montour, $91 in Northumberland and $39 in Union, Superintendent John Kurelja said.
The increases helped balance a budget that contained an initial $1.3 million deficit. The long budget process helps make sure the budget is appropriately scrutinized and all issues are ironed out before adoption, Kurelja said.
“We have a process where we try and deal with these things early, so we’re not rushing right at the last minute,” he said. “It’s worked out very well for us.”
The 2012-13 budget also included a tax increase: .47 mills in Montour, 2.13 mills in Northumberland and .51 mill in Union, according to school board meeting minutes.
