— PPL Electric Utilities is asking Valley residents to conserve electricity, as per a request from PJM, the independent electricity grid operator for this region.
The move is to ensure adequate power supplies during the record-breaking frigid weather in the region, PPL Spokeswoman Teri MacBride said.
Customers should do what they can to conserve electricity, especially from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 7 p.m.
Among suggested steps:
Set thermostats lower than usual, if health permits.
Postpone using major electric appliances, such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers, until mid-day or after 9 p.m., when the demand for electricity decreases.
Turn off electric lights and appliances that are unneeded and unused.
