The Union County Veterans Fourth of July committee is offering wide range of events for its 2019 celebration. Most events are scheduled for June 29.

The week begins with the Freedom Bike Ride, sponsored by Pardoe’s Perky Peanuts, with the first day of the ride on June 25.

The events on Saturday, June 29, start with the Union County Veterans Fourth of July parade. The parade, in its 25th year, steps off at 10 a.m.

“We are fortunate to have so much community support for this parade” said Terry Burke, committee vice president. “Each year, we are able to honor between 80 – 100 veterans, most of whom live locally.”

The parade goes on rain or shine.

Immediately following the parade, there is a recognition ceremony in Bucknell’s President’s Grove. There are local community groups present at this event who sell food to raise money for their organizations. Immediately after the recognition ceremony, three professional bands (all of whom march in the parade), will each provide a free performance at the President’s Grove.

New this year, Catelyn Troxell will be providing a yoga seminar, free to veterans and their families, in front of Bucknell’s Alumni House (on University Avenue), at 1 p.m. Others may attend for a small donation.

On the other side of town, North Shore Railroad is once again offering train rides. The train will be at the Lewisburg Boro Building/Hufnagle Park.

This is where passengers will embark on the train for an hour ride. Rides start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets must be purchased prior to the event and are available at www.unioncountyveterans4thofjuly.com

The action continues with the Jeep Jamboree, held at the Lewisburg Weis Markets parking lot, from 2-6 p.m.

There will also be raffles, small games of chance, T-shirts and decals for purchase. Also present will be food and merchandise vendors.

The National Guard will be providing a rock-climbing wall (about 25 feet high) to climb at the Jeep Jamboree. The group also secured a Black Hawk helicopter for this event.

Lewisburg Weis Markets holds its annual block party, starting at 5 p.m. in the parking lot. The Becky Blue band will play from 7-9:15 p.m.

In a different part of town, at Wolfe Field, local community organizations will be present to sell food for this community get-together. The PA National Guard will have a gaming trailer present at Wolfe Field for entertainment. The Uptown Music Collective will be performing live at Wolfe Field from 7-9:15 pm.

At 9:30 p.m., Alena Vargas will be singing the National Anthem live at Weis Markets, while Abbie Carney will be singing the National Anthem live at Wolfe Field.

Immediately after the National Anthems, the annual fireworks show, sponsored by Weis Markets, will begin.
