The 20th annual Valley Outdoors Cabin Fever Expo will be held at the Mifflinburg Intermediate School on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is free and door prizes will be given away.
The expo will host many outdoor vendors which include camping, fishing, trapping, archery, guided trips and much more.
This year, the grand prize will be a compound bow from Weaver’s Archery. Additional prizes include a CVA Wolf inline muzzleloader kit from Letterman Outdoors, a custom fishing rod and reel package from Clark’s Wiggly Worm Bait and Tackle, two Cricket .22 rifles (one for a boy and one for a girl) from Little Sportsman’s Shop, a pheasant hunt from Martz’s Game Farm and several prizes from Abe’s Custom Woodworking.
“This time of year, people are getting ‘cabin fever,’ hence the name, and are looking for something fun to do and this gets them thinking about the outdoors,” said Karen Hendricks, expo organizer. “Keeping the event free and encouraging children to invest in the outdoors has kept our expo going for 20 years.”
Children are encouraged to attend the event with many activities geared toward them. For children 11 and under, there will be seed planting, face painting and a coloring contest.
“Our family has enjoyed this amazing community event for the last few years. It’s a great way to get out and break up those winter blues, and enjoy some quality family time together,” said Kendra Hollenbach, mother of five from Middleburg.
There will also be two competitions for children ages 16 and under: Casting and turkey calling. The casting competition will be held at noon on Saturday with pre-registration by 11:30 a.m.
The kids turkey calling competition will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday hosted by TOP Calls with pre-registration held at the company’s booth by 1:30 p.m. All contestants will receive prizes for both competitions.
