RIVERSIDE -- Twenty-seven youngsters showed off their books during "Meet the Author Day" at Riverside Elementary School.

The first-graders from two classes wrote and illustrated their books that include title pages and autobiographies. They each chose a topic to write about, according to their teachers Angela Rush and Daria Vodzak.

On Friday, friends and family were invited to come and see the books. The students read their books to the visitors, signed autographs and had their pictures taken as "famous authors."

The project was started a few years ago and has proven to be a great success.

"The friends and family not only go to see their child but they also go to every child and mingle around," Ms. Vodzak said. She said turnout for the event was great.

Ms. Rush said the event boosted the kids' self-esteem as well.
