BEAVER SPRINGS — It looked like it was going to be a long night at the West Snyder Middle School during the 28th annual Midd-West School District spelling bee.

Thirty spellers from the Middleburg Middle School and West Snyder Middle School met to compete for grade-level awards and the overall district championship. First-, second- and third-place prizes were awarded to students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.

The sixth-grade winners were Karli Arbogast, first place; Selina Perez, second place; and Hunter Jordan, third place. The seventh-grade winners were Jackie Weyant, first place; Austin Landis, second place; and Nicholas Schmoyer, third place. The eighth-grade winners were DeShawn Showell, first place; Drew Kreamer, second place; and Keegan Klase, third place.

After the grade level competition, the first-place winners competed for the district champion plaque, which was won by sixth-grader Karli Arbogast.
