Entering her senior year at Lycoming College, Kayla Sassaman, 21, of Selinsgrove is majoring in English and music.
She has been playing the piano since she was 6 years old and has loved singing for as long as she can remember.
You may remember Sassaman from her performance at last year's river festival. "My favorite part of the festival was seeing people stop to sing along or dance a little while I performed," she said.
"I like seeing the joy on someone's face when they realize I'm singing a song they can relate to."
While country music is her main genre, her target audience is anyone who can relate to the songs she sings about love and life. "That's what music is all about."
Over the years, Sassaman has performed with the Lycoming College Tour Choir in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Argentina.
She has dabbled in writing her own music, but as of yet, hasn't fully composed a song to perform.
Sassaman admires the music of Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert.
"I think almost anyone can relate to their music sung with their strong and beautiful voices."
