SELINSGROVE — Donald L. Hanson, 72, of 27 Mountain Drive, passed away at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born April 14, 1937, in Ludington, Mich., a son of the late George B. and Margaret (O'Connor) Hanson. On Dec. 30, 1977, he married the former Yvonne J. Hare who survives.
Donald was a graduate of the Montague Township High School in Michigan, and attended college in Michigan for two years. He served in the Army and the Michigan National Guard.
He had been employed as a police officer in Ravenna and Ionia, Mich. He was later employed as a manufacturers representative and retired in 1998 as operations manager at Bilger Fuels.
Don attended Higher Hope International Ministries, Sunbury, was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 22, Sunbury, and the Williamsport Consistory.
Don enjoyed camping, reading, and watching TV, particularly the news, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. But the great passion of his life was his family. Don served as a foster father for 32 years to over 200 children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by eight children, John Arbogast, of Selinsgrove, Donna Earnheart, of Freeburg, Lisa Zeigler, of Sunbury, Donald Hanson Jr., of Knoxville, Tenn., Russell Hanson, of Selinsgrove, Cecilia Guadalupe, of Illinois, Cecil and Jessica Hanson, both of Selinsgrove, and Stephanie Willingham, of Wilkes-Barre whom he considered a daughter; nine grandchildren, Danielle Trautman, Robert Trautman III, Casey Zeigler, Troy Zeigler, Donald Hanson, Shayna Hanson, Kelby Arbogast, Jordan Beth Hanson, and Tanner Arbogast; four great-grandchildren, Xavier and Zander Trautman, and Alicia and Isaiah Morales; and his mother-in-law, Edna Hare, of Selinsgrove.
He was preceded in death by one son, George Hanson in infancy, and three brothers, George, Terrance and Robert Hanson.
At Donald's request there will be no services.
