VICKSBURG — The Vicksburg Community Hall Association Inc. is offering three $1,000 scholarships to Mifflinburg and Lewisburg area students in their senior year of high school, attending college or having their GED.
Jamie Wagner said there is restriction to age, race, gender or area of study.
Those applying must meet certain criteria and write an essay of 250 to 500 words, no more.
The essay should include:
• Activities: Scholastic participation in academics, sports, band
• Community groups: Scouts, 4-H, church, etc ...
• Accomplishments and achievements
• Volunteerism in the community
• Goals and aspirations in life
The essay must be in English and typed; double-spaced in 12-point font.
Wagner said applicant must include most recent transcript, if any, including the 2009 fall semester or quarter if applicable.
The application must include: full name, address, e-mail address and telephone number of the applicant.
Education information, name of institution, expected graduation date, and institution's address. (Must be attached to the essay).
The application is also available to high school students at the Mifflinburg or Lewisburg guidance office.
The trustees and members of the Vicksburg Community Association Inc. will read the essays and reply to the two successful applicants by May 13, Wagner said.
Scholarship award will be distributed by Aug. 1 upon receipt of evidence of attendance or acceptance of admission for the 2010 fall semester at an accredited university, college, trade school, technical institute, vocational training or other post secondary education program in the 2010- 2011 academic year to the student's college account by the Vicksburg Community Association Inc. treasurer.
Applications must be postmarked no later than April 15. They should be mailed to Vicksburg Community Hall Association Inc., attention Scholarship Award, in care of Jamie Wagner, 6321 Old Turnpike Rd., Vicksburg, PA 17844.
