MILTON — Three organizations in Milton are joining forces to collect gifts for veterans and children in need.
The Milton Elks Club, American Legion Post 71 and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary are accepting items such as toothbrushes, mouthwash, razors, aftershave, deodorant, socks, puzzles and hard candy, for distribution at veterans hospitals in the region, and they are also collecting new toys for children, supporting the Marine Corps League's Toys for Tots program.
Denise Ulmer, exalted ruler of BPOE 913, said there are collection bins at the Elks Club, 21 N. Front St.
"You don't have to be a member to drop off items," said Mrs. Ulmer. "If you buzz, someone will let you in."
Jim Traendly, commander of Legion Post 71, echoed Mrs. Ulmer.
"We'll accept donation at the Legion anytime someone wants to drop them off," he said.
The American Legion home is at 401 N. Front St.
Donation boxes for Toys for Tots are at several other locations in Milton, he added.
Mrs. Ulmer asked that donations for veterans be dropped off prior to Dec. 14, since they will be packed up and delivered to the veterans hospital in Wilkes-Barre the following week.
Toys should be dropped off by Dec. 20.
