TURBOTVILLE — John Robert "Bob" Moser, 86, of Koch Road, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at his home following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Lewis Township, Northumberland County, a son of the late John Henry and Ellen Elizabeth (Ellis) Moser. On Aug. 21, 1948, he married the former Thelma L. Miller and they have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
A 1941 graduate of Turbotville High School, Bob spent his working years as a heavy-equipment operator, most notably as a grader. He was a member of Local 542 Operating Engineers and worked on various construction sites. In the early 1960s he worked for Lycoming Construction Company, and later in life worked for Interstate Amesite.
Bob also farmed in Lewis Township and planted his two-acre garden of vegetables and especially potatoes, many of which he shared with friends and neighbors. He was also a former supervisor and Republican committeeman for Lewis Township.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Turbotville.
An avid hunter of all seasons, he especially loved rabbit hunting with his beagles. He was a member of the Muncy Hills Wild Cat Hunting Club for 53 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John R., Jr. and Peggy, of Watsontown, Dale E., of Turbotville and Richard L. and Gail, of Watsontown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia A. and Thomas Fleeger, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Sharon K. Wallace, of Turbotville; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Henrietta Fry, of Milton; and one brother, Donald R. Moser, of Turbotville.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Krista Fleeger, a son-in-law, Dennis Wallace, four brothers, Harold Larue, Henry Lee, Marvin E. and William K. Moser, and five sisters, Betty Hopewell, Hanna Raup, Sadie Bieber, Kathryn Cotner, and Miriam O'Conner.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brooks Funeral Home, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Church of Christ, Church Street, Turbotville, with his pastor, Amelia Shivers and also Pastor Michael Reece of Delaware Run Wesleyan Church, Watsontown, officiating.
Burial will follow in Turbotville Cemetery.
