SUNBURY — An early Sunday morning city fire left two families homeless, according to Sunbury Fire Chief Paul Brown.

Five individuals living at 313-315 Fairmount Ave., were displaced after fire shot through the roof of the 315 side of the double home, Brown said.

The incident began at around 3 a.m. when a call to emergency repsonders came through saying one person may have been trapped inside 315 Fairmount Ave., according to Brown.

"There was heavy smoke on the second floor of the 315 side and we were told there was one person entrapped," Brown said. "The fire went to second alarm and everyone was able to make it out out safely."

Brown said the home sustained extensive damage and he said the Red Cross is assisting the families.

Power in the area was cut off for several hours, Brown said.

Fire departments from Sunbury, Upper Augusta, Stonington, Shamokin Dam and Selinsgrove assisted at the scene, Brown said.
