DANVILLE — Geisinger Medical Center leaders credit their employees with helping the center gain recognition as one of the 10 best Northeast hospitals at which to work.
The magazine Healthcare Global listed Geisinger as the fourth best hospital to work at on its list, making it the highest-ranked hospital in Pennsylvania. The rankings are based on strong credentials, hospital history, a growing focus on how to best care for patients and promoting employee satisfaction.
Healthcare Global cited Geisinger Medical Center’s Magnet designation for nursing excellence, a national safety commendation by the Leapfrog Group and a new neurosurgery residency program as notable accomplishments.
“Geisinger realizes our most important asset is our Geisinger family (employees),” said Tom Sokola, chief administrative officer for Geisinger Medical Center. “We are fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed work team and are thrilled to be recognized as one of the top hospitals to work at in the Northeast part of the country.”
Dr. Glenn D. Steele Jr., president and chief executive officer of Geisinger Health System, said: “Geisinger Medical Center was founded 100 years ago by Abigail Geisinger, who challenged her staff to make her hospital the best. We believe our staff strives to do that every day. We’re proud of this recognition, which honors Geisinger Medical Center for being a symbol of what needs to change to make U.S. health care more sustainable for future generations.”
