HARRISBURG — There were about 800 fewer people listed as unemployed during September in the local four-county region, compared to August, and the unemployment rates in each county went down slightly.
The latest monthly report, released this week by the state Department of Labor and Industry, shows that 7,800 people were unemployed in Northumberland, Montour, Snyder and Union counties, down from 8,600 in August.
About 86,300 of the total four-county workforce of 94,800 people were employed during September, according to the seasonally-adjusted figures released by the Labor Department.
In Northumberland County, the unemployment rate stood at 9.7 in September, down from 10.1 in August. In Montour County, the September unemployment rate was 7 percent, down from 7.1 percent. Snyder County had an umemployment rate of 8.6 percent in September, down from 9.2 percent in August and the Union County rate was 9.2 percent in September, down from 9.5 percent in August.
The statewide unemployment rate in September was 9 percent and the national rate was 9.6 percent.
