Professional Building Systems Inc. and Custom Building Systems LLC, both Middleburg-based companies with common ownership, are announcing the forming of a business relationship incorporating a new name and logo, Modular Building Systems of PA.

Owner Bill French also expects to hire 50 new employees in the next year.

With a current total of 350 employees, the company produces custom single- and multiple-family residential structures throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The two companies have been working together to form one division, Multi-Unit Modular Solutions, which services commercial clients for structures including offices, apartment complexes and dormitories.

All three divisions operate out of about 300,000 square feet of manufacturing space in two plants located within one mile of each other in Snyder County. Each division serves a separate client base of independent builders and developers with separate sales personnel. Modular Building Systems of PA will maximize efficiency by employing one engineering, costing, purchasing and accounting team for all the divisions.

It will be "business as usual," said Dave Lovell, vice president of sales and marketing.

"Since all three of our divisions have experienced such phenomenal growth in the past two years, we saw an opportunity with the new name and logo to better market each brand and to explain the divisional relationship with common ownership," said Lovell. "The current structure in which PBS, CBS and Multi-Unit divisions operate under will remain unchanged with this new overall corporate name and log."

An investment of more than $1 million in plant expansions and improvements has been made to accommodate an expected increase in demand for single- and multi-family homes, said Chief Operating Officer Ken Reinard.

"The improvements will allow us to reach greater efficiency with increased safety for our employees. We have reinvested in our plants, people and equipment and believe we will be able to add an additional 50 employees in the coming year," he said.
