MIFFLINBURG — August 17 will be a special day at the Elias Center for the Performing Arts in Mifflinburg. At 1:30 p.m, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer will be on stage with their children and family show. Nominated 10 times and two time Grammy winners for Best Musical Album for Children, this duo of performers, musician and songwriters is certain to provide your family with an afternoon filled with fun.
Their harmonized music is backed up with a variety of instruments that they play including, but definitely not limited to, acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, ukulele, steel drum, five string banjo, cello banjo, hammered dulcimer and many more. As a matter of fact, Cathy was the first woman to win the West Virginia Old Time Banjo Contest — not once, but three times.
Sing to Your Baby is the title of their new award winning illustrated book and CD package for new families. Eleven original “sing-plays” guide families through an easy to learn repertoire that creates music moments of magic and joy with their babies that are sung in two keys so that moms, dads and everyone else can find a key they can sing in.
Over 5,000 shows in performing arts centers, schools, folk festivals, community centers, libraries and children’s festivals have given Cathy & Marcy the superb skills to deliver a show that is fun, wacky, energetic, and participatory and meaningful. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children under the age of 6 years. This show is sponsored by Mifflinburg Bank and Trust.
