WILLIAMSPORT — U.S. Rep. Tom Marino cruised to another primary election win, ousting Republican challenger Doug McLinko in the redesigned 12th Congressional District. Who the four-term congressman will face in the fall, however, was too close to call late Tuesday night.

At 11:30 p.m., Penn State professor Marc Friedenberg held about a 1,000 vote lead over Judy Herschel on the Democratic side with about 5 percent of the vote to count.

Marino, of Cogan Station, arrived at the Young Men's Republican Club, in Williamsport, where he was greeted by nearly 50 of his friends, family and supporters. He is wrapping up his fourth term in the 10th District and will shift into the 12th in Pennsylvania's redesigned map if he wins in the fall.

"I want to thank all my supporters, staff and family," Marino said after receiving 35,326 votes. "You just never know with all the things that can be posted on the Internet which are not true. I have a great staff and I am excited for the fall."

McLinko, a Bradford County Commissioner who received 16,965 votes, said he was out spent by Marino and had a rough road taking on the five-term congressman.

"We had great workers and I am proud of the campaign we ran," McLinko said Tuesday night. "I drove more than 20,000 miles through the district and met a lot of great people."

McLinko wouldn't say if he would support Marino in the fall. "I wish him well," McLinko said.

Friedenberg, of State College, an instructor at Penn State main campus was leading Herschel, a drug and alcohol counselor from Susquehanna County, by nearly 1,000 votes with 95 percent of precincts reporting.

Friedenberg had 11,871 to Herschel's 10,797 at last count.
