ANTHONY TWP. — An Amish man riding in his buggy near Exchange on Route 44 was killed during a collision at 5:05 p.m. Thursday.

Pennsylvania State Police at Milton said 77-year-old John Yoder Hostetler, 77, of rural Danville, was traveling west on State Route 44 in a horse and buggy when Anthony Daniel Byers, 20, of Turbotville, struck the buggy from behind in a 2002 Chevorlet Silverado. Hostetler was declared dead on the scene, as was the horse attached to the buggy, police said.

Byers was not injuried in the accident. An investigation into the accident is ongoing.

The section of Route 44 that was closed down by police is now open.

Rescue personnel from the Warrior Run Fire Department were initially called in to assist state police, Milton.
