DANVILLE -- Danville borough property owners could face a tax increase so the borough can keep up with increases in costs.

The Borough Council on Tuesday night may announce a tentative general fund budget of $1,478,000 for 2008 that contains an increase of 0.15 mills or an average increase of $14 in the real estate tax, according to finance director Shannon Berkey.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. in the borough hall. She said she was meeting Thursday with an engineer to finalize the sewer budget.

The millage increase would result in real estate taxes amounting to 2.2 mills.

Currently, the millage is 1.43 mills on the general fund, .35 mills for streets and .27 mills for fire protection.

Of the increase, .03 mill would go toward fire protection.

The borough also levies a $10 per capita tax and $52 on local services.

Next year, the council expects to purchase a new police car and a new truck for the street department.

The increase in taxes is expected to generate about $22,300 in additional revenue.

The council expects to adopt the budget in December.
