JAMESVILLE, N.Y. — Richard D. Garlock, 63, of Jamesville, a former resident of Sunbury, Pa., passed away suddenly on Friday, March 13, 2009, in Salisbury, Md.
He was a son of the late Donald and Ellen Garlock. He was married for 40 years to the former Barbara Smith, who survives.
He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and Albany State University. He served in the Army from 1966 to 1968, stationed in the Security Field Office in Japan. He was the recipient of the Soldier of the Month and Soldier of the Quarter awards.
Richard was the owner of RDG Sales Inc. from 1977 to 1997. He then lived with his wife in Sunbury while working for Mohawk Flush Doors, Northumberland, Pa., for 11 years, retiring in 2008.
He was a past master of Onondaga Masonic Lodge 802 and a former high school basketball and lacrosse official.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Timothy Guthrie of Liverpool, N.Y.; one son and daughter-in-law, Marc R. and Maggie Garlock of Salisbury, Md.; one sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Kim Dellow of Cortland; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rebekah Garlock of Clam Gulch, Alaska; grandchildren, Anna, Reagan, Emily and Alex; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carter Funeral Home, 1604 Grant Blvd., Syracuse, with the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Onondaga Valley Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard's memory to the Lafayette Central High School Athletic Association.
