Warrior Run beats Southern Columbia

Southern Columbia's Alyssa Stavinski (24) looks on as Warrior Run's Rachel Grow runs onto the ball during their District 4 Class A girls soccer championship game Thursday night.

Pairings for the PIAA soccer tournaments have been announced, and four local teams earned berths by way of their finishes in District 4.

All first-round games will be played Tuesday at sites throughout the state.

In the Class A girls tournament, Southern Columbia (13-7-2) and Warrior Run (18-2-2) earned spots, taking two of the three District 4 berths with third-place Bloomsburg.

The Tigers face District 3 champion Trinity at Hersheypark Stadium, the site of the state final, at 5 p.m. Warrior Run, the District 4 champion, plays District 2 champion Mountain View in the first game of a doubleheader at Balls Mills in Williamsport with the Defenders taking the field at 5 p.m.

Warrior Run comes into the state tournament as a winner of 14 of its last 15 games and just one loss in its last 19 games.

With the Tigers and Defenders on the same side of the bracket, the two teams could meet in the semifinal round.

In the Class AA boys tournament, District 4 champion Lewisburg will face District 2 winner Wilkes-Barre Coughlin at Central Columbia at 6:30 p.m. That game will follow a Class AA field hockey playoff game between Selinsgrove and Twin Valley at 4.

Lewisburg comes into the state tournament at 20-1 with a 20-game winning streak that started in late August.

East Juniata (21-2) will face District 3 runner-up Tulpehocken in the first round of the Class A boys tournament as the second game of the Balls Mills doubleheader. The East Juniata game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
