MIDDLEBURG — East Juniata dominated the first 20 minutes of Tuesday’s PIAA Class A girls soccer first-round game.

However, after a long direct pass led to a free kick and a goal for Mountain View, it seemed East Juniata might have a tough contest.

The Tigers quickly dispelled that notion and cruised to a dominant 8-2 victory.

“We don’t panic,” East Juniata senior Madison McDonald said. “We kept playing our game.”

East Juniata will play Fairfield, which dealt the Tigers their lone loss of the season, on Saturday in the state quarterfinals.

Thea Neimond and Keirstyn Fogle each scored a pair of goals for East Juniata, which held a 33-3 advantage in shots.

Neimond opened the scoring a little less than nine minutes into the game. Fogle made a run to the end line and passed the ball to Neimond in the center. Neimond buried the shot in the opposite corner of the net.

“We worked to keep getting opportunities,” Neimond said. “We were a little bit more creative offensively.”

Neimond scored on a similar play about 10 minutes later, but this time scored with an assist from Leah Sankey.

Seven minutes later, Mountain View’s Madison Cross played a long pass forward Rebecca Plomchock, who used her speed to create a dangerous chance. Plomchock drew a foul about 25 yards from the goal. Cross took the free kick and scored.

A little more than three minutes later, Sankey did one better, burying a free kick in the back of the net from 40 yards out. Sankey’s goal was the first of three in a row over a span of less than 13 minutes that spanned halftime and put the Tigers ahead 5-1.

“I think that was very important,” East Juniata coach Val Dressler said of her team’s response. “I’m glad the girls dug down, didn’t give up and stayed focused.”

Mountain View scored to pull within three with 33:15 to play, but East Juniata scored the final three goals for the dominant final margin.

“We really brought the intensity today,” East Juniata senior Clarye Guyer said. “We didn’t know what this team was going to be because we never played them before, so we wanted to play our best.”
