SUNBURY — St. Monica School students took first place in this year's madrigal singing competition while attending School Days at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.
Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades performed "Tomorrow is the Marriage Day," by Thomas Weelkes.
A madrigal, popular during medieval times, is usually a love poem that can be set to music. The song is usually done in parts for several voices singing without accompaniment. Students perform a madrigal from the 16th or 17th century and are judged on intonation, musicality, difficulty and presentation.
Pat Kerber has prepared St. Monica students for madrigal competition for the past nine years.
Singing alto were Sarah Oreskovich, Annie Stewart, Madeleine Troppe, Breanna Mouery, Sierra Dalton, Diane Tran and Emily Kate Greco. Singing baritone were Chis Tiffin, Billy Stewart, Brian Lose, Eric Bortz and Courtney Conrad. Singing soprano were Abby Hogan, Jordan Fiorenza, Emily Shovlin, Rachel Davis, Alie Moran, Kaitlin Brandt, Adrienne Trotto, Lauren Giordani, Christa Beveridge and Kelsi Miller.
