LEWISBURG -- Evangelical Community Hospital and its medical services organization have announced the acquisition of the independent practice of Central Susquehanna Surgical Specialists.

The transfer of ownership of the practice was finalized on Jan. 2 with surgeons, caregivers and other employees of CSSS joining the hospital as employees. The hospital employs about 1,360 people, a spokeswoman said.

CSSS comprises the practice of Gary Ayers, DO; Lisa Ayers, DO, FACS; James Morgan, MD, FACS; Christopher Motto, MD, FACS; Joseph Mucciolo, MD, FACS; Bradley Mudge, DO, FACS; Todd Stefan, MD, FACS, RPVI; and John Turner, MD, FACS.

"Expanding the complement of employed physicians to include surgeons aligns with the hospital's mission and strategic priorities to provide the highest quality surgical care to residents of the Susquehanna Valley region," said Michael N. O'Keefe, president and CEO.

"We look forward to our continued work with these highly skilled surgeons and their staff, and welcome them as fellow employees," he said.

Surgical specialties include vascular, breast, bariatric, wound care, colonoscopies, hernia repair, general surgery and ear, nose and throat. The practice also offers comprehensive audiology services, including hearing aids, and hearing protection solutions.

The hospital will open eight new operating rooms in July as part of a $32 million surgical and cardiovascular construction project. The new surgical suite will provide patients even greater access to life-saving care, officials said.

The surgeons have joined Evangelical Medical Services Organization, which is the employed physician network at Evangelical Community Hospital. The practice's new name will be Surgical Specialists.

It will be a seamless transition. Patients can expect uninterrupted access to the surgeons and providers, officials said. To make an appointment, call 523-3290.
