DANVILLE — The Danville Area School Board is asking Montour County Court to allow the district to sell a former school without seeking bids.
The board has accepted an offer from the county to sell the former Danville Elementary School for $750,000 to Montour County.
The board filed a petition in the prothonotary's office this week asking the court to set a hearing on the private sale. The filing included documents from Richard Drezewiecki, a real estate appraiser, and Dean LaCrosse, a professional appraiser, stating the price is fair and reasonable and better than could be obtained at a public sale.
Montour County wants to buy the building to consolidate county offices. The commissioners hope to sell two buildings along Woodbine Lane and a building along Wesner Lane. They have said the county emergency management agency would remain on the second floor of the Wesner Lane building.
By consolidating offices, they expect to save $100,000 a year.
Attorney Carl Beard, of Altoona, filed the petition on behalf of the school board.
