HARRISBURG — A three-artist invitational will go on view at the Art Association of Harrisburg Galleries on Friday and run through Sept. 3. Featured will be acrylic paintings by local artist Chet Davis, of Paxinos, Rachel Blaser, of Lancaster, and mixed media by Don Weaver, of Wernersville.

The opening reception will take place 5-8 p.m. Friday.

Davis has been a noted art educator and artist in Central Pennsylvania for more than three decades. Obtaining his B.S. in art education from Penn State University, Davis received his MA from the Hartford Art School. His work has been exhibited at national and international levels having been part of an American/Dutch invitational in Holland. Closer to home, his recent solo exhibitions have been held at Mansfield University, Bloomsburg University, Lock Haven University and the Bradley Academy for Visual Arts.

The artist concurs with James Hillman's statement that "art is the visual manifestation of the soul's desperate concerns." He is a figurative painter who believes "the process of painting cannot be an end in itself, but is a way of defining and augmenting the emotional and spiritual content. Figures in my work are often perilously posed, increasing their vulnerability and anxiety," he said. "Ambiguity, saturated color, and tension between the medium and figure are primary concerns in my painting process."
